Dressbarn  – for the Plus Size Working Woman

Raspberries, Strawberries – The Kingston Trio

Like most folks, I have a few favorite places that I like to shop.  If you’ve read my blog, you know I love Torrid, but it may not be as obvious that I really love to shop at Dressbarn.

It’s a funny name, isn’t it?  I thought so too.  So, I tried to figure out why in the world someone would actually name their store something so off the wall.  Turns out there’s a very good reason for it.

The first Dressbarn was opened in 1962, at a time when women were beginning to enter the workforce and needed clothing for that purpose.  Barn was a term used at that time to indicate that a store was a great value; therefore, you could get a dress for a bargain.

With me, I go through cycles with Dressbarn.  Last Spring, I went wild over their floral dresses.  I think I bought three of them at one time and came back for a very beautiful blue dress that stayed on my mind for a while.   It was no different the other day when I went there.  There are some really pretty dresses and skirts (see insert).  And just like the original owner intended, the dresses are a great value at around $60 with many on sale for around $30.
