My Life in the Fat Lane – Review of Alice in Wonderland Dress from Torrid

I’m a bookworm. Or at least I used to be when I had the time. One of my favorites is Alice in Wonderland. And I love all the movies.
Recently, I was doing something around the house (ironing) with the TV on. At first, I wasn’t paying much attention and then I thought I heard Alice (Tim Burton’s version). So, I rounded up the clicker and hit rewind. To my pleasant surprise, there’s a new movie coming out called Alice Through the Looking Glass. The release date is set for May 27, 2016. This time, Alice has to go back and save the Hatter.
One of the things that I’ve discovered about myself while on this fashion journey is that I really like a bit of whimsy. Something unexpected. When Chicka saw this dress, I could tell by the look she gave me that she thought I was nuts. I mean, who could blame her. A 50ish year old wearing an Alice in Wonderland dress. I put it on and added the touches and came back. Her look changed and she said, “Yep, that’s definitely you. I wouldn’t have thought it was going to look good, but somehow you manage to make the things you like work for you.” (Maybe not always). Finding the dress you really want to wear, $58.50. Impressing the twenty year old, priceless.
I saw this dress on the Torrid website and immediately ordered it. While I waited on the dress to come, I made a trip to Hobby Lobby to see if I could find some charms to make a charm bracelet. What I found was amazing – all these charms that fit with the Alice in Wonderland theme. There is even an Alice in Wonderland book charm. The charms are a bit big, so I had to find some earrings that would be equally as big. I found these red hearts at Stein Mart. The bolero jacket is from Belk (similar here). Shoes are Coach sandals.
When the dress arrived from Torrid, I tried it on. I really love the fit, though the scoop was a bit outside my comfort zone. I received a lot of compliments on this dress which boosted my confidence on wearing it. I’ve read some reviews that the hook at the front was a little tight, but I didn’t find this to be the case at all. This one is definitely a winner.
